Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan were typecast for their roles in 50 Shades of Grey. As it turns out, so was Audi.
Adage notes that the choice to include several Audis in the film was not as a result of paid product placement but purely character driven. The handsome and insanely rich entrepreneur-slash-sadist Christian Grey has had a thing for them since the book came out.
Speaking of insanely rich, check out the Audi cameo in this Taylor Swift video.
Filling “Blank Space”
This YouTube video features BBC Radio 1 personality Greg James and Taylor Swift rolling around London in an Audi A2 lip-synching “Blank Space.” Once again, Audi did not pay for placement.
It did, however, pay pop icon Sarah McLachlan to appear in its 2014 Superbowl commercial.
“Doberhuahua” Super Bowl ad
The 2014 Super Bowl commercial for the Audi A3 shows a “Doberhuahua,” a crossbreed of a Doberman and a Chihuahua. The crazy, uncontrollable pooch symbolized the perils of compromise. A teaser campaign for the ad featured Sarah McLachlan in one of her classic, ASPCA-style special messages.
Now let’s look at another side of Audi: Its role in action films.
Released in 2008, the first Iron Man movie introduced the Audi R8. Recognizable by its ice-silver color and contrasting black carbon fiber sideblades, this car appeared in all three Iron Man films. In Iron Man 2 (2010), we meet the R8 Spyder V10, a convertible version of the R8. For Iron Man 3, Audi provided a White Etron and Red Etron.
Meanwhile, in another corner of the science fiction universe, the Audi tech team was busy designing a virtual car for Ender’s Game.
This video shows the design process for the virtual car, the Fleet Shuttle Quattro. Audi created this concept car for Ender’s Game. During production, Harrison Ford sat inside an Audi A7 Sportback. The CGI artists added futuristic design in post-production.
Futuristic special effects were also used in the Audi chase scenes for I, Robot.

Ronin: Audi S8 vs. Citroën XM
Skipp Sudduth, the actor who plays the S8 driver, is both a professional actor and an amateur race car driver, giving him the skills needed to pull off most of the driving scenes in the film.
