Things to do in Dallas
Once famous for oilmen and cattle barons, the city ain’t your father’s cow town anymore. Dallas is the City Center of the sprawling Metroplex comprising Dallas, Arlington, Ft. Worth and several other cities. The financial and tech hub is home to 22 Fortune 500 companies, including two major airlines (Southwest and American). Dallas can be reached by air within four hours from all other major North American markets, making it a popular destination for business travelers and conventioneers.
Dallas is known for its sports-obsessed residents, hosting teams from every major league sport. Dallas is home to the Mavericks (NBA) and Stars (NHL), while the Cowboys (NFL) and Texas Rangers (MLB) play in neighboring Arlington. The US Bowling Congress and International Bowling Hall of Fame are also in Arlington.
The city also has a thriving art scene. Deep Ellum was first known for blues and jazz, but the rhythm is now more rock’n’roll. In addition to the live music venues, there are also restaurants and galleries in the revamped warehouse district. Go to the Dallas Arts District to find the city’s leading performing arts venues and museums. You can also make a sobering stop at the Sixth Floor Museum near Dealey Plaza for all the details on President Kennedy’s assassination in 1963.
Premium features like free GPS make it easy to plan a boot-scootin’ trip to Billy Bob’s Texas in nearby Ft. Worth. The largest honky-tonk in the world plays both country and western music. Keep the tunes playing in your Audi rental car by setting up a playlist with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto or choosing a SiriusXM station. The Ft. Worth Stockyards is also a popular destination, as visitors can watch the Old West come to life in the middle of a modern city. Two times each day, cowhands herd Longhorn cattle down E. Exchange Avenue, making for a one-of-a-kind photo op.
